In this one i asked students to react to a song.
Sagi came a week later with this work
I keep thinking that the concept is better served without the white bullet...
what do u think?
Across The Lines (1988-Tracy Chapman)
Across the lines
Who would dare to
Under the bridges
Over the tracks
That separates whites from blacks
Choose sides
Or run for your life
Tonight the riots begin
On back streets of America
They kill the dream of America
Little black girl gets assaulted
Ain't no reason why
Newspaper prints the story
And racist tempers fly
Next day it starts a roit
Knives and guns are drawn
Two black boys get killed
One white boy goes blind
Little black girl gets assaulted
Don't no one know her name
Lots of people hurt and angry
She's the one to blame

and she s only shana Alef
Ok, so that's how it works:
First of all I took Shira and put TONS of makeup on her and some gooey sticky thing that I bought at a custom store, which supposed to make wrinkles- I used it mostly under the eyes and under her cheek bones. Added some shades and glows that will make her skin look a bit wrinkled.
All the other work is Photoshop.
I took the original picture and started to make some of her organs longer (I read that
when you get older your nose and chin gets a bit longer.. and it gave her an amusing look.. so what the hack), Unfortunately the wig was really small, so I had to fix that too.
I added some wrinkles to her mouth and neck with the burn tool.
After I finished "fixing" her, I took old women's pictures and add some wrinkles with
masks and some adjustments (lightning etc).
Now all you have to do is add a little saliva and you're good to go!

Teaching Graphic design is not like teaching history.
You have to get u r students emotionally involved in their work. to do so u have to know them.
at least u got to try. and sometimes u miss.
2 students left the department this last semester.
usually it s not because a lack of talent.
Yael told me that she just stopped enjoying the classes.

1st Time
BLOG Magazine
The BLOG magazine is my favorite project this year
I like everything related to printed work, old fashion offset real ink printing.
most of the time students don't get to "really" print their work, and usually the 1st time they get a chance to print (offset) is at work after the academy....with no real knowledge how to do so.
So i proposed to have a real printed magazine in the department, so students can learn the whole
process. To make the course more "academic" i decide to make the magazine in 2 colors only, so the files must be handle with that perspective (duotone, overprinting, bleeds, ect....).
The taget of each course was simple : print 3000 units of a magazine in 2 colors
we got 7 week for each edition
we also had to raise the money....!
In order to print a magazine.....u must create one...
In the first meeting with the class, we split to a few groups, each group has its own assignment.
2 students were assigned to be managers/ editors, 4 - graphic designers, 3 writers, 3 photographers, 2 illustrators, 3 money raisers, 1 post production
i was acting as.....the owner of the magazine.
So this was a team effort and unlike usual courses, everybody got to get their job done in order to have a magazine at the end of the process
during our meetings at class, we read the texts, watched the pictures, discussed the graphic.....voting with raised hand on every conflict. i tried not to interfere to much and to let the class make their own decisions
I decided on 2 things : the format (100cm x 70cm) and the theme of each issue
All the rest is the class work (bet3 and bet1, seconds year students)
On our 7 meeting we drive to Jerusalem to print the magazine
I ask the printer to make the work on his oldest machine so the student can understand a watch the all process
Making the plates, preparing the ink, assembling the plates into the machine, running the paper, checking for dust, ...ect.
The owner of the print shop gave a little lecture on the printing process
On the first trip to Jerusalem we got a picnic for lunch break...the food was.....not stars restaurant
On the second trip we try something else......not a 3 stars restaurant
and we drove back to Tel Aviv
The magazine was free distributed in different points over the city
Thanks to all student for the pictures
Special thanks to Adar and Nir Tober
